5 Benefits of Grounding That Will Help You Live Longer – scientifically explained and experimentally proven in this post! Read more to help lengthen your days!

What is Grounding?
Grounding is putting your bare feet on the earth, touching a leaf that is planted in the ground, hugging a tree, or even touching cement (which is semi-conductive) to receive the benefits of the earth fully.
“Earth’s surface is an abundant source of excited and mobile electrons, as described in our other work. We further propose that skin contact with the surface of the Earth allows Earth’s electrons to spread over the skin surface and into the body.”1
The comfort of staying indoors and rubber soles have kept us from experiencing the beauty and healing of the Great Outdoors; and her healing benefits.
When was the last time you touched the earth with your bare feet?
Science of Grounding

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. Hebrews 1:3
The earth offers us electrical energy which our bodies need. Grounding is a way to charge your body like a battery!
When grounding, you absorb electrons from the sun and hit the earth’s ionosphere. Sometimes, a lot of electrons are released and form lighting.
This electric boost will help improve your lifespan and help you become healthier! Take those shoes off!
Why Grounding is Important

"The Lord is My Shepherd, He makes me lie down in Green Pastures." Psalm 23
With the bombardment of EMFs and stress in our daily lives, grounding is…grounding. If you are experiencing pain, inflammation, disease, or heart problems, try this remedy and test it yourself.
I increased my time outside in my pasture because I am pregnant and have swelling and pain. Grounding has been my holy prescription.
Not only does grounding improve my physical body, but being outside restores my soul and calms my mind. I am so blessed to have access to the earth outside my door.
Grounding is not just putting your feet on the ground, it is breathing in fresh air, feeling the breeze, absorbing the sun, and listening to the birds chirp.
I encourage you to start by allowing yourself to be grounded in every aspect, and see where that takes you!
The Benefits of Grounding

Grounding is an anti-aging remedy that is so simple and free, that it would be absurd not to touch the earth from time to time. “Such effects [of Grounding/Earthing] relate to inflammation, immune responses, wound healing, and prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory and autoimmune diseases.” -NLM
The earth is giving charged antioxidants all the time, take advantage of this remedy!
Grounding appears to improve sleep, normalize the day-night cortisol rhythm, reduce pain, reduce stress, shift the autonomic nervous system from sympathetic toward parasympathetic activation, increase heart rate variability, speed wound healing, and reduce blood viscosity.2

While there are many benefits of Grounding, I believe these 5 will help you live longer:
- Reduces Inflammation
- Improves Circulation
- Improves Mood
- Improves Sleep
- Boosts the Immune System
1. Reduces Inflammation:
Did you know collagen molecules in our bodies are stored in a gel that absorbs electrons? We need all the free electrons we can get, to take care of the free radicals in our bodies.

Have you ever noticed yourself stiff and unable to move like you once did as a child? Let me ask you this, as a child, were you always barefoot?
If the answer is yes, it is most likely kids are natural at grounding… they hate wearing shoes! Instinctually, they are correct and can have low inflammation because of how they live.
Lowering chronic inflammation in the body can help boost longevity by allowing the body to be at rest. While short-term inflammation is essential for healing, it can be harmful if it lasts too long. Chronic inflammation can increase the risk of stress, so it’s important to minimize it.
The only way to lower chronic inflammation is to ground.
Research has concluded that “mobile electrons from the Earth enter the body and act as natural antioxidants;3 they are semi-conducted through the connective tissue matrix [collagen], including through the inflammatory barricade if one is present;23 they neutralize ROS and other oxidants in the Repair Field; and they protect healthy tissue from damage.” -NLM
Therefore, take advantage of the free electrons from the earth to reduce inflammation!
2. Improves Circulation:
Grounding has been shown to reduce blood thickness making the blood easier to pump and circulate. Grounding increases the surface charge on RBCs [red blood cells] and thereby reduces blood viscosity and clumping.3
This one was huge for me in my late third trimester. My lymph drainage was slower and I was swelling in the summer’s heat wave.
I made myself copper and shungite jewelry to help improve the electrical conductivity while outside grounding. I can report that my swelling has gone down, and is not painful to walk anymore.
3. Improves Mood and Spirit:
Without fail, I come outside every day and tend to my animals or check on the garden. This means every day, I can ground in my earthrunners. I immediately feel better, less stressed, and am more happy!
If the weather is nice, I sit outside and work on my laptop. This is a current photo of me grounded while writing this article lol.

Doing so, helps me relax, and be still. I would much rather be outside in the cool shade of the trees than inside an AC building.
However, if you want to ground indoors, there are grounded mats, sheets, and pads you can use to help you ground as well. Earthing Harmony is a great site to buy sheets, shoes, and accessories.
4. Improves Sleep:
With the improvement of sleep, the body is better able to heal itself.
An experiment was conducted involving 12 individuals “who were in pain and had problems sleeping. They slept grounded for 8 weeks using the [grounding sheet] system shown in Figure 4. During this period, their diurnal cortisol profiles normalized, and most of the subjects reported that their sleep improved and their pain and stress levels declined.”4
This Grounding Sheet has been an extra boost of grounding while we sleep indoors. You might want to consider this for the sleep benefits grounding offers.
Furthermore, the experiment led by the National Library of Medicine reveals, “The results of the experiment led to these conclusions: 1) grounding the body during sleep yields quantifiable changes in diurnal or circadian cortisol secretion levels that, in turn, 2) produce changes in sleep, pain, and stress (anxiety, depression, and irritability), as measured by subjective reporting.”5
5. Boosts the Immune System:
The example above helps show the effects of grounding when and inflammation. The immune response is quickened and deals with neutrophils faster due to the anti-oxidative benefits the earth’s magnetic field offers the body.
The ability of our bodies to heal ourselves is radical when given an extra boost from the Earth.
Shoes for the Soul
Without shoes or socks, your feet can breathe and move as designed. These are from Earthing Harmony
Shoes have become a major inhibitor of our healing. Not only because they aren’t grounded, but they restrict the natural movement of the feet. Our feet when walking are supposed to bend and mold to the ground, the muscles are supposed to be strong and flexible in our feet. With rubber-soled shoes, it is hard to achieve this.
To counteract this unnatural shoe dilemma, companies all over the world have been making ‘barefoot’ shoes that allow the toes to widen, and the foot to move better overall. Some are even ‘barefoot’ and grounded with a copper plug.
My favorite grounded and barefoot shoes that I wear every day are EarthRunners.
