How to Host A ‘Berry First Birthday’ For Your Little One

How to Host A ‘Berry First Birthday’ For Your Little One is the sweetest memory you can create for your child. Trust me, it will be ‘berry’ fun!

This post offers ways you can celebrate your little one in a berry fun way. Celebrate this once-in-a-lifetime birthday with this party guide!

How A ‘Berry First Birthday’ Theme Was Created

If you are in celebrating a summer baby, this theme is perfectly sweet. This summer, we spent most of our time at Farmer’s Markets where the strawberries are literally the sweetest, most juicy, and delicious strawberries ๐Ÿ“ I’ve ever had. My daughter and I were hooked.

A little serendipitous fact is that a strawberry from our Back to Eden Strawberry patch was her first food. Thus, the theme was in the making ever since she tried that first strawberry on our homestead.

How to Plan for A ‘Berry First Birthday’

Celebrating a one year old is a MUST! I don’t care that my one year old slept through some of her party, even while we sang Happy Birthday to her, this core memory was created and will live forever in our photo books.

Since my daughter was born in August, we held her birthday in the end of strawberry season. I started planning this in late June. Don’t wait too long to start planning beccuase you will need to invite guests with adequate time.

The berry first thing you will need to do is:

  • Choose an Invite with a Strawberry theme
    • For paper invites there are really cute downloads on Etsy
    • For paperless invites, I used a Greenvelope invite
  • Give enough time (4-5 weeks in advance) for guests to schedule it in their calendars.

How to Host A ‘Berry First Birthday’ For Your Little One: LOCATION

This part is important because you want to scout out the best possible location. Many factors depend on making or breaking a party, especially when it comes to having a party outside. If it is an option and if weather is suitable, opt to have it outside. The kids will love it!

We had her party at a park under a beautiful tree. It was the most perfect place beacuse it was right next to a playground and near a pond with ducks and turtles. The kids enjoyed the party and then finished off at the playground.

A coordinating theme of an outdoor picnic with a simple setup of two tables, lawn chairs, and a classic picnic blanket was just right. There was plenty of room for the older kids to play and since it wasn’t a picnic table, I didn’t have to reserve the spot.

Things to note about the perfect outdoor public location:

  • Plan ahead to call the city you are in reserve a table/ area if need be
  • Select a spot with
    • shade
    • a nearby trash can
    • and a place to hang a banner

How to Host A ‘Berry First Birthday’ For Your Little One: DECORATIONS

For the cutest and pinterest-worthy party, try and plan ahead to handmake some decorations or buy from handmade shops like Etsy. Buying party supplies that are cute, ethical, and affordable is possible without buying from big box stores.

A unique and creative way to save money is to paint your own birthday banner. No painting skills needed! I made this sign for my daughter’s birthday with a roll of kraft paper and paint. It came out berry cute with the bunting banner along it.

I did end up buying eco-friendly wooden forks and paper cups and napkins from Amazon which had great options.

For the classic picnic feel, I chose a lot of red gingham prints paired with just enough strawberry themed items to make it come toghether nively. The hints of brown showed up and I loved the way it looked with the red and pink color scheme.

WARDROBE: Strawberry Pinny Dress

If you are planning on ordering a dress online, make sure to give it time to arrive and extra time if it doesnt fit to be able to exchange it. Learn from my mistake, haha.

I ordered a Strawberry print dress and it came all the way from the UK, only for it to be too big. Thankfully, I had enough time to order a smaller size and return the other one.

This pinny dress from Little Green Radicals is absolutely adorable. It is reversible and she can wear it next summer too. I have been putting it on her almost every week since her party. It is made from Organic Fair Trade Cotton and feels so soft.

Don’t forget a hair accessory for your little girl, and a birthday hat!

How to Host A ‘Berry First Birthday’ For Your Little One: FOOD

An obvious choice of food is organic strawberries! This strawberry shortcake was a hit, although mainly my one year old just ate the strawberries and cream ๐Ÿ“๐Ÿฐ

Strawberry Shortcake

Here is the list of food we served:

  • Charcuterie Board
    • deli slices, cheese, crackers, fruit
  • Strawberry Shortcake
  • Triple Berry Pie
  • Rice Krispies Treats (homemade)
  • Nixie Strawberry Drinks
  • Sparkling Water
  • Lemonade

Party Favors:

Don’t forget to say thank you to your guests for attending and celebrating with you.

These custom coloring stickers with crayons were the perfect addition.

I also chose to include bubbles with a strawberry wand! To this day, we still play with the bubbles.

I hope you have a berry fun time celebrating your loved one.

Custom Made Birthday Banner

For my LO’s actual birthday, I hung up this beautiful custom made banner from my cousin over at LittleBiteCreations on Etsy! She does custom orders and is super creative. Be sure to check her creations out for your next party.
