Natural Flea, Tick, and Allergy Remedy for Pets

Pets have evolved to become less a part of the wolf pack, or wildcat tribe and more a part of our human family. Over the years, I have learned how to be a dog mom which is very different than being a cat mom. I grew up with indoor/outdoor cats that didn’t need me much.
Dogs are very different from cats because they are more dependent on us. They need more love and affection, I notice. However, they also tend to have more issues with ticks, fleas, and allergies.
For this post, I am mainly suggesting these remedies for dogs. I have not had to use anything on my farm cats for allergies or ticks. I will, however, share what I have done for the farm cats regarding fleas.
Flea and Tick Medication Causing Severe Adverse Reactions

Natural flea and tick remedies are nowhere in a conventional vet clinic. Herbal or apothecary remedies take care of the issue without negative side effects. This is why I choose herbs, or essential oils for treating most health issues.
There are plenty of testimonials for flea and tick medication given to dogs who either vomit, seizure, or die within a few days of being given the treatment. This news article shows the travesty of a medication called Bravecto had on many pet’s lives.
The FDA Fact Sheet has research proving these isoxazoline flea and tick medicines have severe adverse neurological reactions for dogs.
I would rather hand-pick fleas from my dog’s coat or rinse them out than give my fur babies these tablets. It is essentially a pesticide that affects the dog’s nervous system as well.

There are many natural formulas to dispel fleas and ticks from your pets, and I have found that the simpler the better. Keep in mind, that some essential oils are toxic to dogs as well. Do your research to understand the potency of essential oils and how they should be used.
The quality of essential oils matters for toxicity as well. I only recommend third-party tested and safe essential oils from reputable brands.
I give some non-toxic pet-care tips and recipes in my free ebook which you can download here!

The blend of these essential oils works well for dispelling fleas and ticks off your pets, and keeping them off:
- Cedarwood
- Geranium
- Citronella
- and/or Terrashield
Grab a glass spray bottle and add 10-15 drops of each oil. Dilute with 3 ounces of water or carrier oil and spray on your dog’s collar or fur. If they run away when you try to do this like my LGD does, spray into your hands and rub them down with pets.

Lymes Disease Natural Remedy for Pets

During tick season, there is some danger of transmission of disease from ticks. If you have a dog who has been bitten by a tick and is not the same, consider giving your pet Bor-L-Immune from Sustenance Herbs:
Ingested daily at the first sighting of ticks and throughout tick season will help support the Interleukin 2, Th1 and Th2 immune response. During a tick bite, the saliva of the tick inhibits TH1 immune response, Spirochetes take advantage of this to colonize in the tissues.
Sustenance Herbs
- Supports a Healthy Immune Response
- Enhances Normal Liver, Spleen, and Thymus Function
- Protects Heart Muscle
- Enhances CD-4 White Blood Cells

Natural Allergy Remedy for Pets

Suddenly, my three-year-old dog had her first allergy attack ever. She has never had sneezing, coughing, or red eyes before from being outside in the grass. I noticed my other dog was sneezing too so I bought this herbal allergy medicine to combat their symptoms.
This herbal supplement worked well for my LGD who lives outside day and night. However, my indoor doodle still has some symptoms, but not as severe as the first day we noticed them.
Local, raw honey is amazing at preventing and relieving allergies as well. I pour some over their raw food and they love it.
As much we love our pets, they love us even more. We are their world, give your pets a good hug for me!
